So this is life
Golden sunrises
Silvery hued nights
Dreams that fade
into nightmares
Toes that trip
the soul
Fingers that kiss
ivory
Hair that glistens
in memories sunset
Eyes that sparkle until
the clouds roll in
She is learning
to lean
upon each breath
To cherish the weight
of the air
inside her chest
She is learning the way
into the depths
of her mind
Rolling her eyes
backward
until her pupils hit
that flint of light
She is learning how to
stand her ground
Legs and soul
firm as an oaks roots
She is growing wings
Her arms outstretched
Enjoying her molt
She only needs
to learn
to fly
She practices
A flapping echo
Hints of
laughter
But falls
on her knees
every time
Scars and scabs
that trail
her failure
But only those
with halos
are given this gift
She must endure
the pain,
the bruises,
the shame,
the loneliness,
the horrors,
the longest days and
the shortest dreams
But her feathers
will grow
an itching tingle
Her anticipation
will amplify
Each grain of sand
that gets trapped
in the waist
of that fragile hourglass
will quiver
She must walk
through the darkness
before she finds
light
Make it all
filthy
before she washes
clean
