Chapter 33

birthday poem 003

The seconds tick by

in circular motion

A never ending spin

down the chosen path

of the wall clock

The sands trickle down

the waist of time

A continuous vortex

drowning my youth

in an hourglass

A few more hours

left of this age

This book of my life

is turning

another page

Beginning

another chapter

Reflecting on the past

I remember this story

The days

that I highlighted

The paragraphs

I read over

The pages

I tore

The corners

I creased

The lessons

underlined

The happiness

bookmarked

The troubles

scratched out

The spine

broken

The cover

worn and torn

It is time

to put this year

on the shelf

Tuck it away

among the other

worn pages of yesterday

The memories

of my world

stacked up

Written down

Confessed and compressed

into leather bound

ink stained parchment

An existence

in notebooks

The turning of the pages

representing my

sunrises and sunsets

The closing of a cover

epitomizing my years

The opening

of an uncreased

binding begins

The graphite

hesitates

Anticipating

what will come

before this word

and the next

This step

and the last

This day

and the night

This year

gone away

birthday poem 006
